Wintergreen Park is the reason to bring a dog. The village describes it as a 32-acre wooded area with walking trails, on 60th Ave. directly across from Heritage Park. For a village this size that’s a real amount of quiet woodland, and it’s the sort of place a dog can have a proper half-hour on a lead without seeing a road.

Heritage Park, in the southwest corner of the community on 60th Ave., is the open counterpart — playground, ball fields, soccer fields, gazebos and grills. The two sit opposite each other, so you can walk the woods and then sit in the sun without moving the car.

Mill Pond Park has an open-air pavilion available for parties and gatherings.

No dog park in the village

The village’s parks pages don’t list an off-leash area. If you want a fenced dog park within reach, Eau Claire runs three of them about 50 minutes further east on I-94, on a licence or daily-fee system — check their rules first.

Why the drive out here is worth it anyway

Baldwin is a straight run out I-94 from the east metro, and the state line is a river you cross without slowing down. That matters for adopting: organizations in western Wisconsin serve much smaller populations than metro rescues, so a given animal usually has fewer applicants competing for it.

If you do adopt across the line, leave with the records — vaccination history, rabies certificate, spay or neuter confirmation, and the microchip number plus its registry. Update the chip registration to your own details the same week. That’s the step people forget, and it’s the one that matters if the animal ever gets out.
