Trails, lakes and a dog park in Amery

Amery’s best asset for a dog is the Stower Seven Lakes State Trail. The Wisconsin DNR gives it as 14 miles of crushed stone running from Amery — west of Highway 46 at Harriman Avenue — out towards Dresser, finishing near Lotus Lake. The city describes it as brushed and graded, open for silent sports: walking, biking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. No motorised traffic.

The pass rule is the useful detail. The DNR requires a Wisconsin state trail pass for every bicyclist or skier aged 16 or over. Walkers and hikers don’t need one. If you’re here to walk a dog, that’s a free day out on a graded surface with lakes most of the way.

Neither the DNR page nor the city page states a pet policy for the trail, so we’ll leave that to you to confirm rather than assert it.

The city lists the Amery Dog Park with donations welcomed, and links its own dog park information document from that page. Check it for current details if the dog park is the reason you’re driving out.

Other walking

The city also names the Gandy Dancer Trail — 98 miles — along with the York Park Walking Trail and the School Forest Trails, all on its hiking, walking and biking page. North Park has an RV campground, and Polk County runs Apple River Park & Campground.

Crossing the line to adopt

Adopting in Wisconsin as a Minnesota resident is routine, and western Wisconsin organizations serve much smaller populations than metro rescues — usually fewer applicants per animal. Whatever you adopt, leave with the paperwork: vaccination and rabies records, spay or neuter certificate, and the microchip number plus its registry, which you should transfer into your own name the same week.
