Pine City’s parks are strung along water, which is the useful thing to know if you’re planning a walk.

Challeen Park sits on the south bank of the Snake River at the end of 3rd Street SE, with a large fishing pier, picnic areas and a community garden. It’s the most characteristic spot in town — the Snake runs from here down to the St. Croix, and it’s a genuinely scenic stretch of water.

Voyageur Park is the walking one: picnic tables, grills, a gazebo, walking paths and a disc golf course, plus a giant carved redwood voyageur statue that is exactly as odd and as good as it sounds.

West Side Park has the public swimming beach — lifeguarded, with bathrooms — along with a fishing pier, shelter, playground, horseshoes, basketball courts and a skate park.

Robinson Park is the downtown green, with picnic tables, a gazebo, grills and playground equipment, and it’s where Art in the Park and Market in the Park happen.

There are boat landings on Cross Lake and Pokegama Lake, and the city counts 460 local miles of snowmobile trail — check locally before assuming any of it is walkable in the off-season.

No dog park in town

The city doesn’t list an off-leash area. What Pine City does have is river frontage, two fishing piers and a set of parks close enough together to string into one walk — which for a leashed dog is a better afternoon than most towns this size offer.
